Zach Werenski received a big honor from the National Hockey League today.

The Grosse Pointe native – just 19 years old – posted three goals and 10 total points in 14 games over the course of November.

Werenski, a product of USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program and the Michigan Wolverines, beat out the likes of Pittsburgh goaltender Matt Murray, Toronto center Mitch Marner and Winnipeg Jets winger Patrik Laine for the award.

He leads all rookie defensemen in scoring this season with five goals and 11 assists, which is good for sixth among all NHL blueliners.
