College Hockey – Saturday night recaps

Michigan at Alaska

It took more than 60 minutes for a goal to be scored, but the Michigan Wolverines came out victorious in their Saturday night rematch with Alaska. Alex Guptill scored less than a minute into overtime to record the game-winner – a much-needed goal that ended a lengthy losing streak. Our friends from the Michigan Daily were brave enough to make the trek out for the weekend. Zach Helfand said that the Wolverines are finally smiling, while Matt Slovin reported that it has given Michigan a sense of relief.

Bowling Green at Michigan State

The Spartans continued their winning ways Saturday night, posting a 4-1 victory over Bowling Green. By completing the sweep, MSU is now 10-5-1 on the season, and 6-4-0 in the CCHA. And in case you missed it, be sure to check out our recap from the Spartans’ Friday game. MSU is now in sixth place in the CCHA, though they have played two fewer games than any other conference team.

Western Michigan at Ferris State

The Broncos posted a 3-0 shutout over the Bulldogs Saturday to complete a sweep on home ice. Dane Walters led the way for WMU, recording a pair of goals in the win. Western Michigan’s 6-4-2 record in conference has them in third place in the CCHA standings, while Ferris State is fifth (6-5-1).

Lake Superior State at Ohio State

The Lakers dropped the second game of their series with the Buckeyes, marking the first time they have been on the wrong side of a sweep all season. OSU’s two goals weren’t enough for the Lakers to overcome. They are now fourth in the CCHA after the two losses to the first-place Buckeyes.

Miami at Northern Michigan

The Wildcats posted an impressive 5-1 win over visiting Miami on Saturday to clinch a home sweep. Multiple goals on the two-man advantage powered NMU to their 10th win in their last 11 games.
