The 8th annual Warrior Hockey Day in Michigan has come and gone and thanks to the participation of over 80 ice arenas, this year’s event reached the highest number of participants to date. Warrior Hockey Day in Michigan was made possible through the support of hundreds of volunteers, the efforts of our sponsors, and the dedication of Michigan’s hockey community.
In total, more than 100 events took place on Warrior Hockey Day in Michigan. Specific events included:

Throughout Michigan, media coverage also reached new heights this year with two CCHA games being a part of special Warrior Hockey Day in Michigan broadcasts on FOX Sports Detroit, along with extensive coverage of events by the FOX Sports Detroit Girls, day-long coverage on MiHockeyNow.com, a Warrior Hockey Day in Michigan Facebook page with over 1,700 followers, promotion on the Warrior Hockey Facebook page, and post-event coverage in MiHockeyMag.

The Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) is pleased to announce that the eighth annual Hockey Day in Michigan will take place on Saturday Feb. 16, 2013. This year’s event will again be sponsored by Warrior, a leading hockey equipment, apparel, and footwear manufacturer based in Warren, Mich. On Feb. 16, USA Hockey and over 20 local programs across the state will encourage kids to come to a local participating rink and try youth hockey as part of Hockey Day in Michigan, presented by Warrior Hockey. Throughout the state, Boys and girls, ages 4 to 9, are invited to visit a variety of rinks across the state to partake in a Try Hockey for Free clinic, designed to let children experience ice hockey for the first time and learn the basics of the sport in a fun, safe environment. With the Warrior Hockey Day in Michigan quickly approaching on February 16, the Rochester Onyx Ice Arena and the Warren-based hockey company will be hosting multiple activities beginning at 1 p.m. The Mite/Squirt divisions will kick things off with a skills competition, as three skaters and a goalie will compete in the Fastest Skater, Stick-handling Obstacle and Shootout Challenge events. The Detroit Red Wings announced today that they will be having two ‘Youth Hockey Night at the Joe’ events in February and March, as part of the Warrior Hockey Day in Michigan celebrations. For the Red Wings’ game against the St. Louis Blues on Feb. 13, hockey players and parents will be able to get ticket packages for either $35 or $50 – savings up to 30 percent off box office prices. Ticket packages come with a food voucher and a Detroit Red Wings knitted hat, as well. The Wings will offer the same package deals for their game against the Colorado Avalanche on March 5. There will be more than 100 hockey events taking place across the state during Hockey Day in Michigan this Saturday. Yet only one offers a historical perspective on why hockey has become such an integral part of Michigan’s sports culture. At 1 p.m. on Feb. 16, veteran sports broadcast Raymond Rolak will host a multimedia presentation at the Westland Public Library, designed to show hockey enthusiasts some fascinating photos and share historical information about hockey in Michigan. The free clinics across the state of Michigan aren’t just for the boys during the Hockey Day in Michigan weekend.
There are two girls-only clinics taking place in the Mitten, one on Saturday and one on Sunday.
On Saturday, Feb. 16, the Ann Arbor Amateur Hockey Association will host a ‘Try Hockey For Free’ clinic at the Ann Arbor Ice Cube from 12:30 p.m. to 1:50 p.m.
On Sunday February 17th, the Victory Honda women’s senior travel team is offering a free ice hockey skills clinic for girls participating in the house or travel organizations from the Arctic Edge, Arctic Pond and the Plymouth Cultural Center. This clinic will be held at the Arctic Pond Ice Arena from 6:30 p.m. to 7:50 p.m. Click here for more information.
KOHA and Warrior team up for Hockey Day in Michigan
The Kalamazoo Optimist Hockey Association, Wings Stadium and Warrior Hockey are teaming up tomorrow for a big Hockey Day in Michigan celebration.
KOHA kids, ages 10 and under, are invited to participate in Warrior’s ‘Chara Challenge’ – a nationwide fastest shot competition. The Warren-based hockey company has set up the challenge to track each shooter’s progress, allowing kids to see how their shot stacks up with players from across the country. Players are asked to bring their skates, helmet, gloves, and a stick, though there will be Warrior sticks available to demo. Click here for more information.
