The eighth annual USA Hockey Sled Classic – an event presented by the NHL – is set to begin this Thursday in Plymouth, Minn.

A record 28-team field will feature more than 300 athletes, including 15 current members of the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team.

Representing the Winged Wheel will be players from Michigan’s Sled Wings and Sled Dogs programs, joining forces to compete as the Detroit Red Wings at the event.

They will be taking on teams representing 19 other NHL member clubs – the Anaheim Ducks, Arizona Coyotes, Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabres, Carolina Hurricanes, Chicago Blackhawks, Colorado Avalanche, Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, Edmonton Oilers, Florida Panthers, Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota Wild, Nashville Predators, Philadelphia Flyers, Pittsburgh Penguins, St. Louis Blues, Tampa Bay Lightning and Winnipeg Jets.

The Wings play the Minnesota Wild at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, then the Winnipeg Jets at 3:45 p.m. On Saturday, they play the Florida Panthers at 2:15 p.m.

MiHockey will be keeping tabs on the Wings’ sled squad as they compete in the prestigious tournament. Hockey.TV will be streaming all the games live at USAHockey.HockeyTV.com; there will be five championship games on Sunday.
