The Spartans have spent some time in the Grand Rapids area lately, and they recently pulled in another Fox Motors product on the recruiting trail.

Michael Feenstra, a 2001 birth-year defenseman, has committed to Michigan State. He’s the third Fox Motors player to pledge to the Spartans, joining Cam Knuble and Brad Marek as verbal commits to the school in East Lansing.

“I chose Michigan State because of their great new coaching staff and outstanding facilities,” Feenstra told MiHockey. “It was an easy decision for me because I’ve been a MSU fan my whole life, and jumped at the opportunity to be a Spartan.”

The Grand Haven native played for the Fox Motors 15U team last year; he’s now skating with the U16s under former Grand Rapids Griffins star Travis Richards.

Feenstra said he is appreciative of the Spartans for giving him the opportunity to play college hockey.

“Having the chance to play Division 1 hockey has been a goal of mine ever since I started playing hockey, and to have that opportunity as a Spartan is a dream come true,” Feenstra said. “I can’t thank my coaches, family and friends enough for helping me get to where I am today.”
