Another Fox Motors player has made a verbal commitment to the Michigan State Spartans.

Fox 16U forward Dan Russell, a Traverse City native, is the fifth player from the Grand Rapids-based Tier 1 program to secure a spot with the Green and White.

“I picked MSU because I loved the history of Spartan hockey,” Russell told MiHockey. “I’m very excited to play for Coach Cole and the rest of the MSU staff.”

Russell comes from an impressive hockey family, to say the least. His father, Kerry, played for MSU from 1987-1991; his eldest brother Marcus is a freshman at Michigan Tech; and his other older brother, Jon, is committed to Harvard. Right now, Jon is playing for the Amarillo Bulls of the NAHL.

This season, he has recorded 18 points in 12 games, per EliteProspects.

Russell was one of 16 players in his age group selected for the USA Hockey Select 16 National Player Development Camp last summer.
