Two homegrown Michigan boys competing for the Big Ten’s two Great Lakes State schools have received conference honors today.

Wolverines forward Tony Calderone has been named the conference’s second star of the week, while Spartans forward Mitch Lewandowski is the third star.

Calderone, a Trenton native and senior captain of the Wolverines, recorded two multi-point games over the weekend to help Michigan claim four points against No. 4/2 Minnesota.

He posted a goal and an assist in the Wolverines’ comeback win Friday night, then added two – including the game-tying goal – in a 6-6 tie the next night.

It’s his first weekly award.

Lewandowski, meanwhile, tied for the Big Ten lead with three goals this past weekend, helping Michigan State to a series split against No. 7/10 Wisconsin.

The Clarkston native and freshman forward factored in on all three MSU goals Friday, then scored the game-clinching goal in Saturday’s 2-0 win.

It’s already the second weekly award for the freshman; he was the conference’s first star on Oct. 24.
