The Michigan youth hockey community has lost a leader today.

Belle Tire director John Kay has passed away.

The leader of the Belle Tire program for nearly two decades helped guide generations of hockey players through the ranks.

He was instrumental in the operations of the Tier 1 state playoffs year after year, as well, hosting the tournaments at the Taylor SportsPlex.

The visitation for Kay will be at Wasik Funeral Home in Shelby Township (49150 Schoenherr Road). Days/times:

  • Sunday 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Monday 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The funeral will be on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the same location.

UPDATE: A GoFundMe account has been created for his family – more info can be found here.

MiHockey will be providing more information as it is received…
