Looks like he earned his spot.

The Detroit Red Wings announced today that they have signed homegrown product David Booth to a one-year contract, after the former Michigan State star took part in training camp and the preseason under a professional tryout.

Last week, he told MiHockey his time with his hometown team had been unforgettable, whether he made the team or not.

“It’s awesome, it really has been,” Booth said of the experience. “Probably my most memorable training camp, my favorite training camp. It’s just really cool being part of this team and wearing the Red Wing jersey. I think every kid growing up here just wants to be a Red Wing. I still have that desire in my heart.”

The 32-year-old forward played in five preseason games with the Wings; he finished with one assist and a +2 rating. Including head coach Jeff Blashill, Booth becomes the seventh Michigan native to be with the Red Wings this season.
