Mitch Lewandowski picked a good time to score his first NCAA goal, and he’s being rewarded for it.

The Spartans freshman has been named the Big Ten’s first star of the week after his first collegiate goal – and three assists – led MSU to a comeback win over Western Michigan Friday night at Munn Ice Arena.

It’s the first time a Spartan has been named the first star of the week since Jerad Rosburg was so honored on Nov. 29 of last season.

Slaker second

Sophomore forward Jake Slaker had himself a weekend at Yost.

The San Diego native set up the game-winning goal for his Wolverines Friday night, and then scored the game-tying and game-winning goals in UM’s 3-2 comeback victory Saturday for a weekend sweep of Vermont.

It’s his second weekly award.
