Great Lakes Invitational taking place Jan. 1-2

College hockey fans, your annual trip to Detroit during the holidays will be noticeably different this year.

There’s been some rumors going around that the Great Lakes Invitational wouldn’t be played in the traditional window of after Christmas but before New Year’s, and it looks like those are correct. Per a few different postings, the games will be played on Jan. 1-2 at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit.

The Pistons have home games on Dec. 26 and Dec. 30 at the new building in Detroit, while the Red Wings have a home game on Dec. 29.

College hockey on New Year’s Day – thoughts, Hockeytown?

Michigan Tech’s schedule has those dates listed, as well, though we haven’t seen any official press release about the date changes.

It doesn’t appear on the Michigan or Michigan State schedule pages; Bowling Green, meanwhile, has dates from Jan. 1 through Jan. 4.
