USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program has hired the son of a Michigan coaching legend.

Rick Comley Jr., son of former Northern Michigan and Michigan State head coach Rick Comley, is the team’s new assistant director of player personnel.

Comley will be working alongside new director of player personnel Kevin Reiter for the NTDP’s recruiting and scouting efforts.

Prior to joining the NTDP, he worked as the assistant general manager and director of scouting for the Omaha Lancers. Comley previously worked as the director of scouting for the USHL, as well.

Meanwhile, the program has found its’ replacement for Reiter as goaltending coach; the NTDP has hired Thomas Speer to serve in that capacity. A native of Janesville, Wisc., Speer played for Wisconsin Stevens Point and UMass Boston before entering the coaching ranks. He has served as the goaltending coach of the Allen Americans (ECHL) and the Witchita Falls Wildcats (NAHL).
