PHOTOS: The first-ever hockey game at Little Caesars Arena

On the scoresheet, it was just a normal Sunday afternoon Little Caesars Amateur Hockey League game. For the players on the ice, it was a memory they won’t soon forget. On Sept. 17, the Michigan Ice Hawks and Family Hockey Club – a collection of high school players playing on a split-season squad – took part in the first-ever hockey game at Little Caesars Arena.

They played at the Belfor Training Center – the practice facility for the Red Wings – but they will still be able to say that they played in a competitive hockey game at the new arena in Detroit before anyone else. For record-keeping purposes, Family Hockey Club’s Frank Klamerus, a junior from Riverview Gabriel Richard, scored the first goal, while the Ice Hawks ended up prevailing 4-3 in the contest.
