The Muskegon Lumberjacks have hired two notable Michigan hockey names to the team’s coaching staff.

Dave DeSander is coming on board as the Lumberjacks’ new goaltending coach, while Mike Hamilton will serve as the team’s video coach.

DeSander, 34, is a Saginaw native who played for Marian University before a pro career that spanned three leagues – including a stop with the AHL’s Iowa Wild.

He is the executive vice president of Future Pro USA, an elite goaltender training organization across North America.

Hamilton, meanwhile, has been coaching youth hockey teams – primarily with Honeybaked – for the past 18 years. The Grosse Pointe Farms native played for Minnesota State University, and he played junior hockey for the Detroit Freeze under Lumberjacks head coach John LaFontaine.

He’s the father of former Lumberjacks captain Trevor Hamilton, now a standout defenseman at Penn State.
