On Friday, the stars will be out at the Troy Sports Center to support a foundation created in memory of a hockey player lost too soon.

Gallagher-Kaiser, an industrial equipment supply company based out of Troy, has organized a charity hockey game to support the Mitchel Kiefer Foundation.

The foundation, started in honor of former Detroit Catholic Central goaltender Mitchel Kiefer, aims to help families in need while fighting ‘distracted driving.’

Kiefer passed away in August of 2016 due to a car accident on his way to Michigan State during his freshman year.

Bob Kaiser, owner of the company, is a hockey fan and a hockey dad – his son, Bobby, is a Muskegon Lumberjacks forward and UMass commit.

As of Aug. 7, notable players expected to be in attendance include:

  • Zach Werenski
  • Chris Chelios
  • Tie Domi
  • Dalton Prout
  • Boone Jenner
  • Steve Oleksy
  • Danny DeKeyser
  • Igor Larionov
  • Mitch Eliot
  • Trevor Hamilton
  • Nick Azar
  • Michael Downing
  • Spencer Wright

Admission will be free to the game, which starts at 6 p.m. Jerseys of current and former Red Wings players will be auctioned off, as will a Zach Werenski stick. There will be other fundraising efforts during the event, as well.
