The Detroit Jr. Red Wings are representing the Winged Wheel and Michigan at the prestigious Brick Invitational Hockey Tournament, and Hockeytown traditions have followed them all the way to Edmonton.

Check out the video below of an octopus landing on the ice inside a mall in Edmonton (yeah, how cool is it to play hockey inside of a mall?). Looks like the kids loved it, especially when coach Steve Rymsha swung it around his head like Al Sobotka.

The Jr. Wings team is having success on the ice, as well – they’re 3-0 after their first three games. The team is coached by Rymsha and his brother Andy.

Nicholas Kosiba is leading the Wings squad in scoring with seven points in three games.

The Brick Tournament, now in its 28th season, is a 10U tournament played each summer at the West Edmonton Mall. Tyler Seguin, PK Subban and Jonathan Toews are just some of the names on the alumni list that stand out, while an impressive list of Michigan names have participated, as well, including:

  • Torey Krug
  • Zach Werenski
  • David Booth
  • Erik Condra
  • Nathan Gerbe
  • Steve Kampfer
  • Matt Hunwick
  • Drew Miller
  • And many, many more…
