The Wings have decided that Dennis Cholowski is ready to leave school early.

Detroit announced this evening that they have signed their first-round pick from last year’s NHL Draft to a three-year entry-level contract.

The defenseman – a native of Langley, B.C. – just wrapped up his freshman season with St. Cloud State. He posted one goal and 11 assists in 36 games as a freshman blueliner skating in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference.

Cholowski was selected No. 20 overall by the Wings in the 2016 NHL Draft.
