PLYMOUTH – When you score four first-period goals, you’re in pretty good shape.

Especially in the state title game, no less.

Warren DeLaSalle accomplished that feat in the opening frame of the 2017 MHSAA Division 3 state title game against Calumet at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth. Then they added one more in the second period.

That was enough, despite a substantial effort from Calumet to chip away at the deficit.

With a final score of 5-3, the Pilots won their first state title in school history.

Captain Thomas Hernandez scored three of the Pilots’ goals, recording a hat trick in his final high school hockey game. Austin Scott and James Corbett also found the back of the net for DLS.

Andrew Grewette led the Pilots between the pipes.

Brent Loukus, Izaak Avery and Ed Beiring scored for Calumet.

Stay tuned for postgame video and photos from USA Hockey Arena…
