The Detroit Red Wings have assigned prospects Givani Smith and Filip Hronek to their AHL affiliate in Grand Rapids.

The two OHL players will get valuable time with the Griffins for the remainder of the 2016-17 season now that their seasons with their junior clubs have come to an end.

Smith, the team’s first of two second-round picks in last year’s NHL Draft, racked up 44 points in 64 games with his Guelph Storm this past season.

Hronek, the Wings’ second of the two second-round selections, was fourth in OHL defenseman scoring with 61 points in 59 games for the Saginaw Spirit.

He was recently named the MVP of the Spirit for the 2016-17 season season by the club.
