Right now, Canton native Max Ellis is skating in Youngstown, Ohio.

The next stop in his hockey career will be in South Bend, Indiana.

Ellis announced today that he has verbally committed to Notre Dame for his college hockey career.

“The reason I chose Notre Dame was because my education and faith is just as important to me as my hockey is and notre dame filled all of the boxes,” Ellis told MiHockey.

The 17-year-old forward was tendered by the USHL’s Youngstown Phantoms last spring, and he is now in the midst of his first season with the junior league. Ellis has posted five goals and 11 assists for 16 points in 42 games as one of the youngest players in the league.

“Notre Dame has an amazing hockey history,” Ellis said. “And I felt that it was the best place to further my hockey and education.”
