Brighton’s Jake Crespi named 2017 Mr. Hockey winner; Katie Hayward, Julia Barrett crowned 2017 Miss Hockey

First, Jake Crespi committed to Lake Superior State University during the 2016-17 high school season.

Then, he followed it up with a MHSAA D1 state championship and All-State Team nod.

Now, eight days following the state title with Brighton, Jake Crespi has captured Mr. Hockey honors.

The Brighton forward racked up 30 goals and 29 assists for 59 points in 31 games this season. He becomes the 26th award winner and the second in Brighton High School history.

Hayward AND Barrett named Miss Hockey

Ladywood forward Katie Hayward had already been named a First-Team All-State selection, and Sunday she was crowned 2017 Miss Hockey.

Hayward helped lead Ladywood to the MMGHSHL D1 championship game, which saw the Blazers fall to Mercy in OT, 3-2. Hayward potted 18 goals and 23 points in 13 games this past season.

Additionally, Hayward was equally as impressive off the ice, as she also received an Academic All-State nod.

Julia Barrett of the Walled Lake Wild joined Hayward in sharing the Miss Hockey honor this season.

Barrett, a defenseman for the Wild, racked up an impressive 16 goals and 31 points in 13 games from the back end this season.
