PLYMOUTH – The rivalry resumed Saturday night at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth.

Brighton vs. Detroit Catholic Central with a Division 1 state title on the line – again.

They have now met three of the last four years in the final game of the high school hockey season, and this time, Brighton came out on top.

The Bulldogs, thanks to goals in the opening minute of both the first and second periods, held on to beat their nearby rival 5-2.

Spencer Gehres scored twice for the Bulldogs in the state-title victory, while Keith Wikman, Adam Conquest and Jake Crespi also added goals. Senior Logan Neaton was between the pipes for Brighton.

For the last six seasons, it’s been either Brighton or CC displaying a new MHSAA trophy to their student section shortly after the final buzzer – now three times done by the Bulldogs, three times done by the Shamrocks.
