Boys High School Hockey Players of the Month: February (presented by Lawrence Tech Hockey)

TheHS Hockey coverage Michigan High School Hockey Coaches’ Association and Lawrence Tech Hockey have teamed up to create new players of the week and players of the month awards, and they have formed a selection committee to help with the process.

Each week, the committee members will take the top nominated players by their respective coaches and high school programs and rank the individual performances. From there, players will be selected from their respective divisions as ‘players of the week.’

MiHockey’s Michael Caples and Stefan Kubus are two of the committee members.

Announced Wednesday, here are the Lawrence Tech Hockey High School Players of the Month for February. Winners per region are in bold, honorable mentions are in italics.

 

North Region: Fletcher Bolda, Junior Goaltender, Big Rapids

Bolda had a great month for the Cardinals going 6-2-1 between the pipes while posting a .932 save percentage and a 1.88 goals against average. Bolda led Big Rapids to victories over Mt. Pleasant (twice), Cheboygan, Forest Hills Northern-Eastern, Mattawan, and Manistee. Big Rapids finished the regular season with a record of 16-8-2.

Honorable Mention: Scott Crawford (Sr. Forward, Bay Area Reps), Barrett Bishop (Sr. Forward, Traverse City Central)

 

South Region: Connor Mogle, Senior Defenseman, Jackson Lumen Christi

Connor Mogle led Jackson Lumen Christi in scoring during the month of February finding the back of the net 9 times and adding 9 assists in 9 games. Mogle finished the regular season with 17 goals, 22 assists, and 39 points in 25 games. Jackson Lumen Christi had a great season going 20-5-0.

Honorable Mention: Samuel Chapman (Sr. Forward, Ann Arbor Pioneer), Scott Granzotto (Sr. Forward, Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard)

 

Central Region: Conor Witherspoon, Senior Forward, Flint Powers Catholic

Witherspoon led Flint Powers to a 7-1 record including victories over Livonia Stevenson (#4 D2), Lake Orion (#7 D1), Saginaw Heritage, Midland Dow, Midland, Farmington, Gabriel Richard, and Lapeer West. Witherspoon scored 9 goals and 13 assists in the team’s 8 games. Flint Powers Catholic finished the regular season ranked 1st in Division 3 with a record of 20-1-0.

Honorable Mention: Sam Spaedt (Sr. Forward, Saginaw Heritage), Cam Smith (Sr. Forward, Grand Blanc)

 

West Region: Cole Stenstrom, Senior Forward, Grand Rapids Christian

Cole Stenstrom had a huge month for Grand Rapids Christian scoring 10 goals and 7 assists while the team went 5-4-1 in February. Stenstrom finished the regular season with 23 goals and 15 assists in 21 games. GRC finished 3rd in the Tier 2 Division of the OK Conference with an overall record of 16-9-1.

Honorable Mention: Wyatt Radakovitz (Sr. Forward, Forest Hills Northern-Eastern), Anthony Shrum (Sr. Goaltender, Mona Shores)

 

Metro East Region: Devin Naidow, Senior Goaltender, Grosse Pointe South

Naidow was nearly unbeatable in February posting a 1.00 goals against average and a .963 save percentage to lead Grosse Pointe South to four victories in February. Naidow’s four victories included a 4-0 shutout win over (#3 D1) Brighton, 6-2 win over Novi, 6-1 win over Detroit Country Day, and a 2-1 win over (#9 D1) Detroit U-D Jesuit. Grosse Pointe South heads into the regional playoffs ranked 3rd in Division 2 with a record of 17-3-1.

Honorable Mention: Brent Lanski (Sr. Forward, Romeo), Jack Barker (Sr. Goaltender, Lake Orion)

 

Metro West Region: Brett Miller, Senior Goaltender, Northville

Miller had a big month for the Mustangs going 6-1-0 while posting a 1.67 goals against average and a .943 save percentage. Miller led the Mustangs to victories over (#3 D3) Calumet, (#8 D3) Houghton, (#3 D1) Brighton, (#8 D2) Salem, (#7 D2) Plymouth, and Rochester Stoney Creek. Northville enters the regional playoffs ranked 4th in Division 1 with a record of 15-5-1.

Honorable Mention:  Matt Schaumburger (Sr. Forward, Salem), Zachary Gallaher (Sr. Defenseman, Plymouth)

 

Metro North Region: Henry Gabriel, Senior Forward, Royal Oak

Henry Gabriel had a monster month for the Royal Oak Ravens. The senior sniper scored 22 goals and 13 assists in 8 games to lead Royal Oak to a 7-1 record in February including a 6-2 win over Birmingham Unified to win the OAA White Championship. Gabriel finished the regular season with 57 goals, 44 assists, and 101 points in 26 games. Royal Oak enters the regional playoffs with a record of 21-3-2.

Honorable Mention: Jack Clement (Sr. Defenseman, Brother Rice), Connor McGinnis (Sr. Defenseman, Detroit Country Day)

 

Metro South Region: Tyler Balogh, Senior Forward, Southgate Anderson

Tyler Balogh came up huge for Southgate Anderson in February. Balogh scored 15 goals and 6 assists in 8 games. The senior captain finished the regular season with 37 goals, 23 assists, and 60 points in 23 games. Southgate Anderson finished the season with a record of 8-15-1.

Honorable Mention: Blake Petterle (Jr. Defenseman, Grosse Ile), Andrew Miller (Sr. Forward, New Boston Huron)
