Nick Jensen is staying in Detroit for the foreseeable future.

The Red Wings re-signed the defenseman to a two-year contract extension Monday. The deal is reportedly worth $800,000 in 2017-18 and $825,000 in 2018-19.

Jensen, 26, would have become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season. He has posted eight points in his first 27 NHL games with Detroit this season. His points-per-game mark makes him the second-most productive defenseman on the Wings to veteran Mike Green.

A native of St. Paul, Minn., Jensen spent three seasons at St. Cloud State in the WCHA before joining the professional ranks.
