The Buckeyes are adding another Michigan native to their roster soon.

Today, Brighton native Grant Gabriele announced his commitment to the Buckeyes.

“I’m so grateful to have been a part of so many pronounced organizations throughout my career,” said Gabriele, who played with Belle Tire, Compuware and Victory Honda in bantams and midgets before making the jump to juniors. “I wouldn’t be where I am today. Like every hockey player, their dream is to someday have a chance at playing in the NHL.

“I truly believe Ohio State University gives me the best chance at making that dream a reality while receiving an elite education through programs internationally recognized.”

Gabriele, 19, is currently skating for the Waterloo Black Hawks of the USHL; he has nine points in 19 games.

The Brighton native skated with USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program first as a reserve player in 2013-14 before earning full-time status for 2014-15.

From there, he moved to other USHL programs. The 2015-16 season saw him make stops in Omaha, Chicago and Muskegon, while he has spent the 2016-17 campaign with Waterloo.

“Considering my location in the Midwest, I grew up watching Big Ten teams and always had a dream of playing. My decision was a no-brainer. I am so unbelievably grateful for this opportunity and am just ready to put on the Buckeye sweater.”

Gabriele was previously committed to Western Michigan.
