Coale Norris’ hockey journey has taken him across the country these last few years, but when he starts his college career, he will be back in the Mitten.

The Oxford native has committed to Ferris State University, the Youngstown Phantoms – his USHL club – announced today.

“I’m really honored to have committed to Coach Daniels and Ferris State to play my college hockey,” Norris said in the team release.  “It’s always been a dream to play Division I hockey and to have it become a reality is pretty surreal.”

Norris is the older brother of Josh Norris, a NTDP Under-18 Team forward and University of Michigan commit, and Dalton Norris, a defenseman with the Oakland Jr. Grizzlies U15 team. They are all the sons of Dwayne Norris, who played at Michigan State before a pro career that featured stops at the NHL (Quebec/Anaheim), IHL, AHL and German pro leagues.

He said he’s excited to become a part of the Bulldogs’ hockey fraternity.

“I chose Ferris because of its great hockey history and excellent coaching traditions,” said Norris.  “I’m excited to be a Bulldog and look forward to the opportunity to play close to home so my family and friends can watch our games.”

Norris spent last season in the NAHL, splitting time between the Springfield Jr. Blues and Amarillo Bulls. He recorded a total of 20 points in 52 games.

This year, the Oakland Jr. Grizzlies alum has 12 goals and six assists for 18 points in 41 games with the Phantoms – along with 53 penalty minutes.
