Michigan State has landed a familiar name to the Michigan hockey audience.

A Knuble is coming to East Lansing.

Cam Knuble, son of former NHLer and current Grand Rapids Griffins assistant coach Mike Knuble, has committed to the Spartans.

A Fox Motors 16U forward, the Grand Rapids native has recorded 29 points in 30 games this season. He received an invite to USA Hockey’s 16 Development Camp last spring.

“I have wanted to go to MSU for a long time,” Knuble told MiHockey. “It has been my dream school for a while, whether I played hockey in college or not.”

“…When they gave me the chance to play hockey it really was a dream come true.”

The ‘dream school’ comment may catch the attention of some University of Michigan hockey fans, since Mike Knuble starred for the Wolverines from 1995-99 before his NHL career that spanned from 1996 to 2013 (with 1,028 total NHL games in the time frame.

The Knubles have some ties to MSU athletics too, however.

“Even though my dad went to Michigan I have family at MSU,” Cam Knuble said. “My aunt is actually the women’s golf coach.”

His aunt would be Stacy Slobodnik-Stoll, who has been with MSU for the past 20 years; she’s also a former golfer for the Spartans’ squad, as well.
