Two Michigan natives have claimed the WCHA’s players of the month awards.

Northern Michigan forward and Pinckney native Dominik Shine has been named the conference’s player of the month for January, while Lake Superior State forward and Livonia native Max Humitz was named the WCHA rookie of the month.

Shine, a senior forward for NMU, led the nation in January with a 1.17 goals-per-game average. He recorded a WCHA-best seven goals in six contests – scoring four at even strength, two on the power play and one shorthanded.

Humitz, a freshman forward for the Lakers, led the WCHA freshman class with five goals, nine points and 23 shots on goal during the month. He led all NCAA freshmen with four power-play goals, and he recorded a point in six of the eight games he skated in over the month.
