Western Michigan won its third Great Lakes Invitiational this past Friday, and their freshman netminder was a big reason why.
Now, the NCHC and NCAA have recognized Ben Blacker for his efforts.
Blacker was named NCHC Rookie of the Week and the NCAA Hockey Third Star of the Week after recording 52 saves, a .981 save percentage and 0.45 goals-against average in the 52nd annual GLi – and last at Joe Louis Arena.
Blacker also shut out Michigan Tech in the championship game after allowing just one goal to Michigan State in the semifinal.
An Oakville, ON native, Blacker improved his record to 5-0-0 and now carries a .939 save percentage and 1.65 goals-against average on the season.
