Two Michigan natives have made the latest WCHA players of the week list.

Pinckney native and Northern Michigan forward Dominik Shine was named the conference’s offensive player of the week, while Macomb native and Bowling Green goaltender Ryan Bednard was named WCHA rookie of the week.

Shine, a senior for the Wildcats, tied for second in the entire nation with a WCHA-high four goals over the weekend. Three of those came in the form of his second career hat trick on Saturday to lead NMU to a home-and-home split with Lake Superior State in the Cappo Cup series.

Shine scored while his team was even-strength, he scored on a power play, and he scored while shorthanded. He also scored in his team’s 3-2 loss the night before.

Meanwhile, Bednard made his lone appearance of the weekend in Bowling Green’s 4-2 victory over No. 17 Bemidji State on national television. After allowing two goals in the first period, Bednard was lights out for the Falcons in the final two periods, helping his BGSU squad turn a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead.

This is Bednard’s first career WCHA award, who is now 4-1-0 in his last five starts.
