Michigan State netminder Ed Minney was named Big Ten Second Star of the Week for his efforts against his rival school from Ann Arbor.

Minney, the Spartans’ junior netminder, recorded a 24-save shutout between the pipes Friday night for his first career shutout. He followed it up with a 23-save performance in a 2-2 tie and shootout loss to the Wolverines Saturday night at home. Minney led the conference in save percentage (.959) and goals-against average (0.96) over the weekend to earn his first weekly award.

On the season, Minney has a 5-11-2 record with a .891 save percentage and 3.41 goals-against average.
