The Grand Rapids Griffins announced today that two of their players will be participating in the AHL All-Star festivities.

Defenseman Robbie Russo and forward Matt Lorito will represent Grand Rapids at the AHL All-Star Classic, which will be taking place at the PPL Center in Allentown, Pa.

Griffins bench boss Todd Nelson will also be at the All-Star weekend; he will be coaching the Central Division due to Grand Rapids owning the division lead as of Dec. 31.

Russo, 23, leads all Grand Rapids defensemen in scoring with 18 points – that total is good for 15th among AHL blueliners.

Lorito, 26, ranks third in the AHL’s assists category with 22 and fourth in points with 32.

Meanwhile, Matt Taormina is the lone Michigan native selected for the All-Star Classic. The Warren native has 30 points in 26 games with the Syracuse Crunch.
