The Grand Rapids Griffins announced Wednesday that the 15th annual Great Skate Winterfest has been rescheduled.

Originally set for this weekend, poor weather conditions have forced the event to be moved to Feb. 18-19. Temperatures are expected to reach up to 50 degrees, thus rendering the outdoor rink at Rosa Parks Circle in downtown Grand Rapids unusable.

However, as part of the rescheduling, the event will return to its original 24-hour format just for this year. The Great Skate will begin at 10 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 18 immediately after the Griffins’ 7 p.m. game against the San Antonio Rampage at Van Andel Arena and then run continuously through 10 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19.

Every Griffins player and coach will skate with fans on the outdoor rink for one hour each around the clock.

In addition to the outdoor skating, there will be ice sculpting, horse-drawn carriage rides and more.
