The 15 nominees for this year’s Hockey Humanitarian Award have been announced, and Adrian College’s Austin Hervey made the list.

Hervey, a Brighton native, is one of the select few men and women selected as a nominee for the prestigious award, which is presented annually to a player who is deemed to be college hockey’s finest citizen – a student-athlete who makes an impact not only on his or her team but in the surrounding community, as well.

A Detroit Catholic Central alum, Hervey is now a senior forward for the Bulldogs; he has five goals and five assists for 10 points in 16 games so far this season.

When he’s not competing for Adrian, he’s still on the ice, working as a skating coach volunteer for the Adrian Youth Hockey Association and a “Learn to Skate” instructor.

Off the ice, Hervey has been an active member of both the Adrian College and the greater Adrian communities. The Bulldogs forward has worked with a number of charitable organizations, including a Cash Mob fundraiser with the Goodwill Industries of Lenawee County. Hervey also organizes his team’s ‘Movember’ activities.

He started the season as a strong candidate for a College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-America selection. Hervey is pursing a accounting degree with a minor in mathematics, with the goal of becoming a CPA and CFP and starting his own firm.

He carries a 3.8 cumulative grade-point average.

Prior to Adrian College, Hervey played for the Indiana Ice of the USHL in 2012-13, the Kalamazoo Jr. K-Wings of the NAHL in 2011-12, and he saw time with USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program Under-17 Team during the 209-10 season.
