Two Western Michigan players have cracked this week’s NCHC players of the week list.

Forward Matheson Iacopelli was named the conference’s offensive player of the week, while Trevor Gorsuch took the goaltending honors.

Iacopelli, a Brownstown native, had the best weekend of his NCAA career over the last few days, racking up five points to lead WMU to a weekend sweep of Miami in the Broncos’ conference-opening weekend.

The Muskegon Lumberjacks alum recorded four goals against the RedHawks, bringing his season total to nine goals. Last year, Iacopelli – a Chicago Blackhawks draftee – had only one goal and seven total points.

He posted three points – including two third-period goals in the third period – for a 6-3 victory on Friday, then two more goals in a three-minute span on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Gorsuch backstopped the Broncos to the weekend sweep, stopping 17 shots on Friday and 29 on Saturday.

The St. Charles, Mo., native finished the weekend with a .902 save percentage, a 2.50 goals-against average and 46 total saves on 51 shots against.
