Two Michigan residents have claimed USHL weekly honors, the Tier I junior league announced today.

Muskegon Lumberjacks forward Andrei Svechnikov was named the USHL’s forward of the week, while USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program Under-18 Team blueliner Quinn Hughes was named top defenseman.

For Svechnikov, it’s his second honor in the same month – he was named forward of the week on Nov. 14, as well.

The brother of the Red Wings’ first-round pick Evgeny Svechnikov posted two goals and three assists – along with a plus-three rating – in two games over the week.

Svechnikov has at least a point in the last 12 USHL games he has played in, and he has scored a goal in his last six.

Hughes, meanwhile, recorded five assists against Svechnikov and the Lumberjacks in an 8-5 victory at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth on Wednesday night. The University of Michigan commit tied the top assist mark for USHL blueliners this season.
