Michigan residents have claimed two of the three WCHA weekly awards, the college hockey conference announced today.

Michigan Tech goaltender Angus Redmond was named the WCHA defensive player of the week, while Lake Superior State forward Luke Morgan was named top freshman.

Redmond, a native of Langley, B.C., moved into the NCAA lead for goals-against average after leading the Huskies to a weekend sweep on the road against Alaska. The MTU goaltender stopped 48 of the 50 shots he saw over the weekend.

Morgan, a Brighton native, capitalized on his weekend close to home, scoring the game-winning goal with 2:57 remaining in regulation against the Wolverines Friday night in Ann Arbor. His goal snapped a 1-1 tie between the Lakers and the then No. 16-ranked Wolverines.
