Lake Superior State announced today that the WCHA program has signed five players to National Letters of Intent.

Headlining the class is former Sault Area High School product Chase Gamelin, who is currently skating for the Brookings Blizzard of the NAHL.

The hometown product played a significant role in the Sault High Blue Devils’ run to consecutive state runner-up finishes at the MHSAA Division 3 state finals.

Gamelin was a first-team all-state selection after recording 59 points for the Blue Devils in his senior season.

“He’s a hardworking, two-way forward who brings a physical presence to every shift and game,” said LSSU assistant coach Rich Metro, who is also a Sault Ste. Marie native. “He brings an element of leadership and character to our locker room after being voted by his teammates as the co-captain for Brookings this season.”

The other forwards in the recruiting class are Matthew Barnaby and Robert Bluegers.

Barnaby, son of the former NHLer by the same name, was recently featured in a MiHockey article here.

Bluegers is a native of Riga, Latvia, currently skating with the Fairbanks Ice Dogs of the NAHL.

On the blue line, the Lakers have added two defensemen – Patrick Kyte and Michael Mannara.

Kyte is currently skating with the Lumber Kings of the CCHL, while Mannara is in his second season with the Ontario Junior Hockey League.
