A St. Clair native has earned some big honors from the WCHA today.

Craig Pefley, a redshirt freshman forward for Ferris State, was named the WCHA’s rookie of the month for October.

The rookie forward racked up nine assists in his first nine games, tying for the WCHA and NCAA lead. His two goals give him a total of 11 points, which is tied for the lead amongst all freshman skaters in the country.

Pefley, a U of D Jesuit alum, had at least one point in seven of Ferris State’s nine games, including four multi-point contests.

He was named WCHA rookie of the week following a four-assist weekend against Alabama Huntsville on Oct. 1-2, and he kept it rolling ever since.

He also finished the month with a +2 rating, led the WCHA with 105 face-off wins and tied for third with five power-play points.
