Mike Green was named the NHL’s third star of the week today.

Stuff like that happens after hat tricks.

Thanks in large part to Green’s three-goal game in the Wings’ home opener on Oct. 17, he was named the league’s third star of the week for the week ending on Oct. 23.

The Wings’ defenseman registered three goals and two assists for five points on the week, helping the Wings to a perfect 4-0-0 record.

A 31-year-old native of Calgary, Green has 402 points in 665 career games, and seven in six games this season.
