The Spartans recorded a shootout win over Toronto in their 2016-17 exhibition season opener Sunday afternoon in East Lansing. Mason Appleton and Patrick Khodorenko scored in regulation for Michigan State, while Ed Minney and John Lethemon split time between the pipes. Joe Cox and Taro Hirose scored in the shootout for MSU.
