Freshman forward Jake Slaker isn’t having much trouble fitting in with the Wolverines.

The San Diego native is the Big Ten’s first star of the week, the conference announced today, after he played a big role in Michigan’s 2-1 win at Ferris State on Saturday.

Slaker, a USHL alum from the Bloomington Thunder, scored his first NCAA goal to give UM a 1-0 lead in the second period, and then he picked up an assist on the game-winning goal with less than five minutes remaining in regulation.

The California native isn’t a stranger to Michigan, however; Slaker played for the Belle Tire U18 team in 2013-14.

He’s the first Michigan player to be named the conference’s first star of the week since Kyle Connor earned the honor on March 15, 2016.

Last week – the first weekly stars list from the Big Ten – UM goaltender Hayden Lavigne was the second star.
