After a Lake Superior State weekend sweep of Alabama-Huntsville, a pair of Lakers were named players of the week by the WCHA.

Sophomore forward Diego Cuglietta and freshman defenseman Collin Saccoman were named the WCHA’s offensive and defensive players of the week respectively.

This past weekend, Cuglietta tied for the conference lead with a plus-four rating and four points, three of which were goals – good for first in the conference and third in the nation. The British Columbia native potted the game-winning goal Friday night and added a short-handed goal within a 2:10 span. Cuglietta added another tally in Saturday’s 5-2 victory.

Meanwhile, Saccoman tied for the WCHA lead and ranked second among all NCAA defensemen with three assists in the weekend span. He, also, was a plus-four on the weekend. Saccoman assisted on both game-winning goals, but also amassed six blocked shots, as he stood out on both sides of the puck.

Ferris State sophomore forward Corey Mackin was an honorable mention for the WCHA Offensive Player of the Week award after he finished the weekend with two goals and an assist against Northern Michigan.

FSU senior rearguard Ryan Lowney – two assists on the weekend – was an honorable mention for the WCHA Defensive Player of the Week.

NMU’s Darien Craighead (two goals, one assist), LSSU’s Brayden Gelsinger (two goals, one assist), FSU’s Craig Pefley (one goal, one assist, shootout winner) and Michigan Tech’s Alex Smith (one goal, one assist) were all named honorable mentions for the WCHA Rookie of the Week award.
