Looks like the Big Ten will follow the WCHA’s lead when it comes to postseason tournaments.

Per a report from the Wisconsin State Journal, the Big Ten will be moving its postseason hockey games to campus sites starting in 2018.

With the shift from a neutral site – this year’s Big Ten tourney takes place at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit – to campus locations, the league will extend the length of their postseason from one weekend to three.

Notre Dame enters the Big Ten hockey family at the start of the 2017-18 season, as well, expanding the conference to seven teams – which certainly plays a part in changing the postseason format from cramming three days of games into a single weekend to a traditional set of weekend series as teams progress through the playoffs.

In May, the WCHA opted to make the same move. You can read about that story – with commentary from WCHA commissioner Bill Robertson and Ferris State coach Bob Daniels – here.
