Red Wings announce 2016 NHL Prospect Tournament schedule

Get out your calendars – the 2016 NHL Prospect Tournament schedule is here.

The annual event, which brings top prospects from eight NHL teams to Centre Ice Arena in Traverse City, officially kicks off on Friday, Sept. 16 and runs through Tuesday, Sept. 20.

The tournament, in its’ 18th year of operation, will welcome the Red Wings, Carolina Hurricanes, Chicago Blackhawks, Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, Minnesota Wild, New York Rangers and St. Louis Blues.

Tickets are available for $10 a day.

The Red Wings have yet to announce their roster, but a few teams have. Carolina will be sending familiar faces Josh Wesley (Plymouth Whalers, Flint Firebirds alum), Alex Peters (Plymouth Whalers, Flint Firebirds alum), Michael Ferrantino (Plymouth, Michigan State alum), Ben Gleason (Ortonville, Hamilton Bulldogs) and Alex Nedeljkovic (Plymouth Whalers, Flint Firebirds alum).

Notable names coming from the Blackhawks include Alex DeBrincat (Farmington Hills, Erie Otters), Tyler Motte (St. Clair, Michigan alum), Travis Walsh (Haslett, Michigan State alum) and Jake Hildebrand (Michigan State aum).

Minnesota will be bringing former Michigan Tech star Alex Petan.

The Rangers will have Nick Betz (Clinton Township, Erie Otters), Adam Chapie (Oxford, UMass-Lowell), Sean Day (Rochester, Mississauga Steelheads), Brandon Halverson (Traverse City, Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds), Boo Nieves (Michigan alum) and highly sought-after free agent signee and Hobey Baker winner Jimmy Vesey.

The teams are divided into two divisions: Chicago, Columbus, Detroit and St. Louis will play in the Gordie Howe division, while Carolina, Dallas, Minnesota and New York will play in the Ted Lindsay division.
