Red Wings announce 2016 NHL Prospect Tournament roster

The Red Wings have announced their roster for the upcoming 2016 NHL Prospect Tournament in Traverse City, and there are plenty of names for the Hockeytown faithful to see in preseason hockey action.

Notable participants include Evgeny Svechnikov, Dylan Sadowy, Tyler Bertuzzi, Givani Smith and Filip Hronek.

The team’s free-agent invitees are goaltender Stephen Dhillon (Niagara, OHL), Luke Coleman (Prince Albert, WHL), goaltender Connor Hicks (Hamilton, OHL), Dylan Coghlan (Tri-City, WHL), Jeff De Wit (Red Deer, WHL), Justin Brazeau (North Bay, OHL) and Flint Firebirds forward Luke Kirwan.

The annual tournament takes place from Friday, Sept. 16 to Tuesday, Sept. 20 at Centre Ice Arena and will feature top prospects from Chicago, Minnesota, St. Louis, Columbus, Carolina, Dallas and the New York Rangers.

Teams are split up into two divisions and will play each team within their division once during the round robin before one crossover game on the final day of the tournament, with the first-place finishers meeting for the championship on Sept. 20. The Wings will be grouped with Chicago, Columbus and St. Louis in the Gordie Howe Division, while the other four squads will play in the Ted Lindsay division.

Chicago will be bringing Alex DeBrincat (Farmington Hills, Erie Otters), Tyler Motte (St. Clair, Michigan alum), Travis Walsh (Haslett, Michigan State alum) and Jake Hildebrand (Michigan State alum).

Carolina will be sending familiar faces Josh Wesley (Plymouth Whalers, Flint Firebirds alum), Alex Peters (Plymouth Whalers, Flint Firebirds alum), Michael Ferrantino (Plymouth, Michigan State alum), Ben Gleason (Ortonville, Hamilton Bulldogs) and Alex Nedeljkovic (Plymouth Whalers, Flint Firebirds alum).

Minnesota will be bringing former Michigan Tech star Alex Petan.

The Rangers will have Nick Betz (Clinton Township, Erie Otters), Adam Chapie (Oxford, UMass-Lowell), Sean Day (Rochester, Mississauga Steelheads), Brandon Halverson (Traverse City, Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds), Boo Nieves (Michigan alum) and highly sought-after free agent signee and Hobey Baker winner Jimmy Vesey.

The Stars’ roster features Firebirds forwards Nick Caamano and Connor Chatham, as well as former Ferris State defenseman Brandon Anselmini.
