Kyle Connor donned the Winnipeg Jets jersey for the first time yesterday – at least the first time for a NHL-worthy contest.

In his preseason debut with the club who drafted him 17th overall in 2015, Connor scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal in a 4-1 Jets victory over Minnesota.

The 19-year-old native of Shelby Township, fresh off a single season at the University of Michigan where he led the NCAA in scoring, logged 17:14 of total playing time, including 4:24 on the power play.

It’s just preseason, yes, but it’s still a great sign for one of Michigan’s budding stars.

He wasn’t the only Michigan name who impressed, however – Ann Arbor native Andrew Copp (also a UM alum) scored on an impressive redirect on a shot from the blue line, and Commerce native Connor Hellebuyck stopped 27 of the 28 shots sent his way.
