Last season, Brenden Rons was trying to make up for lost time.

The U18 Oakland Grizzlies skater moved from forward to defense in December, fresh off missing almost an entire year from injury the season before.

The move has certainly paid off for Rons. The Farmington Hills native is expected to play in the USHL with the Omaha Lancers this season, and with his verbal commitment, he will be making the jump to the NCAA sometime soon.

Rons committed to Michigan Tech last Friday, securing a spot with a WCHA powerhouse before skating in a single junior league game.

“It is a complete dream come true to have an opportunity to join Michigan Tech’s hockey program as I have had the goal in mind to play D1 hockey since I was a little kid,” Rons told MiHockey.

The OJD product is excited to have a chance to skate for Mel Pearson at the collegiate level.

“It will be an honor to play under coach Mel Pearson and his coaching staff and I believe it will play a huge part in my development.”

He also showed his appreciation for his AAA organization.

“I obviously would never be in this position without the support from my coaches and teammates from the Oakland Jr. Grizzlies as well as my parents who have been role models for me my whole life.”
