The Red Wings held a teleconference call for the media with general manager Ken Holland and Frans Nielsen at 4 p.m. ET, but apparently the team wasn’t done signing players.

Detroit has announced that they have signed Steve Ott to a one-year contract, as well.

That brings the total to three players for today – Nielsen (six years), Thomas Vanek (one year) and now Ott (one year).

Ott, 33, has played in 795 games since 2002, and he has recorded 106 goals and 175 assists in the time frame, as well as 1,475 penalty minutes.

According to TSN’s Aaron Ward (a Wolverines and Red Wings alum), the contract is for $800,000.

He brings some ‘grit’ to the Red Wings’ line-up; Detroit won’t be expecting him to be contributing much offensively.
