The Red Wings announced today that they have signed one of their 2016 draftees.

Filip Hronek, drafted in the second round (53rd overall), has signed a three-year, entry-level contract with Detroit.

The 18-year-old blueliner, a native of Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic, was the draft pick the Red Wings acquired in the Pavel Datsyuk trade with Arizona.

Hronek is a selection of the Saginaw Spirit in the CHL Import Draft – the signing would suggest that he is strongly considering coming to Saginaw, as NHL-signed players can play in the OHL. However, according to a representative of the Spirit, he has not yet committed to the Saginaw OHL franchise.
